ECU Research Intern

A HUGE thank you to our recent Research Intern from Edith Cowan University (ECU).

During the first half of 2025, the Emotion Research Institute invited Expressions of Interest from undergraduate students of the major universities in Western Australia to take part in a research internship.

The moment we met, we knew he was the right fit for the project. The brief was to re-analyse a data set from an education study completed in 2018 and our intern brought a fresh approach and perspective to analysing the data and results.

Completing over 120 hours over a 2 month period, our intern delved into a research project looking at the results of a local Western Australian primary school education study and how educating teachers to use Emotional Strength® correlate with improvements in student performance and engagement.

Our intern was able to re-analyse and found the results below:

  • The findings suggest that teacher engagement was statistically significant with increases in vigor and dedication.
  • The re-analysis found there was statistically a significant reduction in student anger and boredom.
  • The re-analysis confirmed that students re-engaged with a statistically significant reduction in behavioural disaffection.

Our intern is in his 3rd year with ECU and the internship contributes a full unit credit towards his Bachelor degree.

Huge thanks to our intern for your efforts and to Edith Cowan University for the opportunity!
